One of the fastest ways to give a spec kitchen new style is to swap out the standard ceiling fixture for something with a little more personality. A flush-mount fixture with decorative details — like this drum light with geometric cutouts — is a dramatic addition that only requires a few twists of a screwdriver. If you kitchen has an island or breakfast bar, consider hanging pendant lights above it. Pendant lighting not only adds style to the space, it can also help anchor a kitchen island so it feels more deliberate in an open-concept home.
Steelcase has helped companies build highly functional, highly beautiful offices for over a century. It got its start as a manufacturer of metal office furniture. Today, it has expanded its offerings to include a wide portfolio of architecture, furniture and technology products and services. And it does all of this with sustainability in mind.
A common way to make bright grout pop is to use it against white tiles. That way, the light tiles don’t compete with the grout; the grout truly becomes the star of the show. For added effect, extend that light color scheme beyond tiles. For instance, in the photo above, the light tiles match a white wall and white counter space and allow the pink grout to shine.

It won a major design award plus the hearts of homeowners with designers or including me. The majors have started to take notice together with are introducing their own versions to the marketplace this year.
I expect integrated ”drainboards” to be a hot trend this year too. They would likely be smaller in size than this dramatic replica Blanco showed us at a Living Kitchen exhibit in Cologne last year. Most of the fixtures producer at the show featured united drainboards and a few have started to offer them in the U.S. market.
