Art Deco Exhibit…

from now until June 1st at the Aurora History Museum

“On display will be examples of how the Art Deco style was utilized in building design, furniture, domestic pieces, radios, lighting, kitchen appliances, jewelry, and much more.”

I have not been to the exhibit yet, but I understand it includes a Fiestaware display and admission is FREE!

The building pictured is “Buerger Brothers” at 17th & Champa. Designed by architect Montana S. Fallis in 1929, it is considered one of Denver’s best examples of Art Deco design.

Denver Botanic Gardens

Denver_Botanic_Gardens

Denver’s premiere Usonian architect, Victor Hornbein with his partner Ed White, Jr., began to design the buildings of the Botanic Gardens in 1960. The first small building was completed in 1965 and Hornbein continued to design buildings for the facility until 1982.

The most well known structure is the Boettcher Memorial Tropical Conservatory (shown above), dedicated in 1966 and declared a Denver landmark merely 7 years later. Whether or not you are interested in the flora, this is a must see Denver treasure!

Recently, voters passed $18.6 million in bond funds for capital improvements to the Botanic Gardens. Here is a link to an outline of what they have planned:

Capital Campaign

(I have asked Mr. Vogt, the CEO, to consider “restovating” rather than “renovating” when it comes to the architectural projects.)

Denver’s changing skyline in 2008

Well it’s not Dubai, but Denver has plenty of cranes working away at changing Denver’s skyline in 2008. One really great place to get the scoop on new developments downtown is Denver Infill. According to Ken’s blog, he even plans on covering the cranes themselves. Be sure to check out the entire site.
