“Texturizing a room is a game changer. Accent pillows in varying fabrics and shades can add another layer of depth to a room. Another opportunity to add texture is through the materials that your accessories are made from. Consider using metals, woven baskets and blankets,” says Dawn Stafford, the owner of Gathering Souls, a concierge design service in Fairfax, VA. Conceptually, texture can be a bit hard to pin down. The best way to think of it is by evaluating how an item looks like it feels. Take the picture above, for example. Consider how you’re easily able to tell that the surface of the coffee table feels rough, while the blanket on the couch is soft. Successful interior design is all about layering these contrasts. When you’re sprucing up a room on a budget, take stock of the textures in the accessories you already own. Then, look for additional items that would serve as their opposite. If need be, consider moving your existing accessories to different rooms as a way of giving your home an update that’s free of charge.
As two prominent leaders in their respective fields, a partnership between West Elm and Steelcase makes sense. Through it, they hope to help the modern workplace make some sense, too. No more lifeless cubicles and austere seas of desks. By working together, these two partners can lean on Steelcase’s knowledge of building quality office spaces while incorporating West Elm’s residential feel. The result is workplaces that feel less like prisons and more like homes.
In order to ensure that your new colorful grout doesn’t go unnoticed, you can match the grout color to other accent walls, like in the photo above. Doing so adds cohesion to the space. And since an accent wall puts people in the mindset of that color, the grout pops all the more. To get this effect, you can either paint a traditional accent wall or use an adjoining wall with tiles that match the grout color. The room in the photo above elected for both options, so don’t feel limited to just one style here. You can even paint a door or have cabinetry that matches the grout color.
If you prefer a decor that´s warm, welcoming in-conjunction with elegant without standing out in a bright or opulent way. this tone of yellow seems like a perfect option, especially in amalgamation with the golden wood finish or the neutrals.
Another good idea is to stick to the basics as well as to use two contrasting colors that accompaniment each other in a natural plus elegant way. Blue with yellow seems to be one such example. But don´t only use these two shades. You can also experiment with some green together with maybe even some red or orange. Just make sure the rest are only accent colors.
